Are you still crashing in the afternoon?

Hi there Reader,

You know the feeling. It's 3pm. You've been moving since 6am, and suddenly it's like someone pulled a plug. Your eyes are heavy, your focus is gone, and the only thing you can think about is something sweet, the next coffee, the bag of chips or crackers sound really good right about now, maybe a handful of nuts. You get the picture.

So you grab a handful of whatever random snacks and “protein” you can find in the pantry, shove it down and you feel better for about twenty minutes. Then the crash comes back, harder.

Here's what most people are told at this point: just eat anything with protein, just eat less sugar, have more willpower, stop snacking.

That advice is missing the point entirely.

What's happening at 3pm isn't a character flaw. It's a blood sugar response and once you understand what's actually going on in your body, the fix becomes a lot more obvious.

Here's the short version: your blood sugar drops when you go too long without eating, eat meals that are too low in protein and fat, or rely too heavily on quick-digesting carbohydrates. When it drops, your body sends out a stress signal, she is screaming “get me fast energy, now!” Cortisol spikes. Cravings hit. You reach for something quick.

That quick thing spikes your blood sugar back up fast. And then it drops again. And the cycle continues.

This is why the 3pm crash is so consistent for so many women. It's not random. It's the predictable result of what happened at breakfast and lunch.

The fix isn't cutting carbs, trust me. Or only eating protein, wrong. It's building meals differently.

When your meals include protein, whole food carbohydrates, fat, and fiber, all four together, your blood sugar rises steadily and falls steadily. No spike. No crash. Your body gets sustained energy across the entire day instead of a series of peaks and valleys.

The difference in how you feel is significant. The mental fog lifts. The cravings quiet down. And this is not because you all of the sudden have willpower, but because your body isn't in an emergency state anymore. Your energy stops being something you have to wonder if you’ll ever have and starts being something you can count on.

I've watched this shift happen in women who spent years convinced they were just “weren’t hungry in the afternoons." Within the first week of eating differently, the 3pm crash either disappears entirely or becomes so mild it's barely noticeable.

It's not complicated. It's definitely not a supplement. It's just building a plate that keeps your body stable and understanding why that matters.

One more thing worth knowing: blood sugar instability doesn't just affect your energy. It affects your sleep (hello, 3am wake-up to “go pee”), your mood, your hormones, and your metabolism. When you stabilize blood sugar, you're not just fixing one problem. You're fixing the foundation that everything else sits on.

This is where I start with every client I work with. Not cutting, not restricting, just building meals that actually do their job.

If you want to start there too, the PWiFF Blueprint lays out exactly how to build those meals. It's free, it's simple, and it's the same framework I use with every woman in my practice.

I can't wait to live a life well nourished with you!

Hi there Reader, I recently sat across from a client, Sandy. Sandy is 56 (you would NEVER guess her age) and she came to me 6 months ago after listening to a presentation I gave at the gym where she works out. She has been busting her rump in the gym for years and not seeing any progress. She is experiencing some peri-menopause symptoms and had a “little bit of weight” around her midsection that she didn’t like. She felt she was working too hard to still be “gaining weight”. I agreed 100%. I...

Hi there Reader, A lot of women tell me they're just not breakfast people. They're not hungry when they wake up, they feel fine on coffee until noon, and the idea of eating before 10am sounds like a chore.I’m going to big sister you right now, not being hungry in the morning is almost never about breakfast preference. For most of the women I work with, it's a symptom. Here's what suppressed morning hunger actually signals: your body has adapted to under-eating.When you've been in a pattern of...

I Hi there Reader, I have been shopping at Costco for what feels like forever! We are a family of 5 and when all 5 of us are in one house, food comes and goes very quickly. Costco is like the hack of all hacks (and if you can, their delivery service is 10/10 must do!) because I can have all the right things stocked in bulk which makes nourishing well in real life actually doable. When your fridge and freezer are built right, a PWiFF plate takes 10 minutes and zero mental energy. Let's get to...
